Primary Education
Yesterday’s primary race in Washington, D.C., makes the new documentary “Waiting for Superman,” by the Academy Award-winning director of “An Inconvenient Truth,” all the more interesting. The movie is about the sad state of public education. One of the main interviewees in the movie, seen as a champion of the kids and foe of the unions, is take-no-prisoners D.C. schools chancellor Michelle Rhee. Well, yesterday the man who appointed Rhee, D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty, lost his primary bid to Councilman Vincent Gray, who has clashed with Rhee and supported the unions. Gray is almost guaranteed to be the next mayor of Washington, and if he is, it is unlikely Rhee will keep her job. If she leaves, what happens to all her reforms, documented glowingly in this new movie (which opens in LA and New York on September 24, and nationally on October 7)? This one is TBD.

Students and Nexus
Nexus was founded in 1992 by student members of the Institute to act as a contact point between physics societies.
Nexus provides affiliated student physics or astronomy societies with grants to support their activities, and encourages interaction between different societies.
We also actively promote the emergence of new societies at universities which do not currently have one, and are here to help such a society through its early stages.
Business forum
The Institute is committed to working with, and representing the views of, businesses that depend on physics.
Through the IOP Business Forum, which operates both regionally and nationally, the Institute works closely with members in business to promote the importance of physics.
Through round-table meetings and business briefings, the Forum enables decision-makers from business, industry and the economy at large to hear, discuss and report on the impact of new physics or changes that affect physics in the UK. The Forum also allows members in business to bring fresh perspectives on Institute activities, from training teachers and promoting inclusivity, to understanding research priorities and influencing government policies.

Getting Your Degree in Education Online

- What are my hobbies? You may have never considered it, but your hobbies can reflect who you are as a teacher. Do you love to paint? Maybe becoming an art teacher is the thing for you. Play the guitar? Consider becoming a music or band teacher.
- What have I studied? If you already have a degree in, say, science, it makes it easy (but not necessary) to teach in the field you have knowledge in. And employers prefer it.

Get Your Teaching License Online!
You just finished your online education degree and you’re ready to teach. Or are you?
Most elementary and secondary schools require their teachers to have not only a Bachelor’s degree, but also a teaching license. With technology zooming ahead, you can now earn your license or certification through online programs.
In earning your license, you will study three primary areas:
- Teaching Foundations:You will learn how to effectively manage your classroom, teach students about diversity and create tests that accurately assess your students’ skill levels.

What’s the Pay Like? If you compare the pay for ESL instructors to what you could make as American teacher in the US, it’s an unfair comparison. Your salary will be entirely relative to where you are and who you teach, but, regardless, with the lowered cost of living in most countries that are hiring, along with housing, food and utility allowances, you will be able to live a profitable and fulfilled life as an ESL instructor.
ESL is not for everyone. But if you love adventure and teaching, it’s a great experience to have for a few years, if not a lifetime!
